Finding your hat size

Each piece in our collection is considered against the standard sizing range used in hat-making. Below you will find the measurements we use, with a short note on how to find your own.

What you'll need

A flexible tape measure (fabric or plastic) works best. If you do not have one, a length of soft ribbon or string and a ruler will do the job just as well.

  • A flexible tape measure, or a length of ribbon or string with a ruler.
  • A mirror, to check the tape sits level.
  • A few quiet minutes, ideally not after a fresh haircut.

How to measure

  1. Place the tape around your head about one centimetre above your ears, level with the middle of your forehead, and right around the back.
  2. Keep the tape firm but not tight. It should sit where your hat will rest, not above and not below.
  3. Read the measurement in centimetres. If you used ribbon, mark where the ends meet and measure that length against a ruler.
  4. Note the figure. Compare it to the chart below to find your size.
  5. If your measurement sits between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Size chart

We recommend checking the size on each product page, as sizes can vary slightly from one hat to another. The chart below is a good starting point, and each product carries its own sizing details.

Size cm Inches UK US/CAN
XS 54 cm to 55 cm 21⅛" to 21½" 6⅝ to 6¾ 6¾ to 6⅞
S 56 cm to 57 cm 22" to 22½" 6⅞ to 7 7 to 7⅛
M 58 cm to 59 cm 22⅞" to 23¼" 7⅛ to 7¼ 7¼ to 7⅜
L 60 cm to 61 cm 23⅝" to 24" 7⅜ to 7½ 7½ to 7⅝
XL 62 cm to 63 cm 24⅜" to 24¾" 7⅝ to 7¾ 7¾ to 7⅞
XXL 64 cm to 65 cm 25¼" to 25⅝" 7⅞ to 8 8 to 8⅛

Pro tip: if in doubt, size up

Between two sizes, the larger one is usually the better choice. A slightly looser hat can be eased in with a sweatband or a thin fitting strip; a hat that is too small cannot be made larger.

Sizes vary between makers and countries

A hat labelled "M" in one country can measure 57 cm with one maker and 59 cm with another. The chart above is a guide. The product page for each hat carries the figures that apply to that piece, and those always come first.

If it doesn't fit

If a hat does not fit once it arrives, you have 14 days from receiving it to let us know you wish to return it. Full details, and how to request a return, are set out in our Refund policy.
