Description

The Pinched Crown

A straw hat with a generous wide brim and a softly pinched, fedora-style crown creased down the centre. The weave is fine and even, the brim wide enough to frame the face, and the whole shape kept to one clean line. Every colourway carries the same contrast tan band around the crown, a small point of definition on pale straws and stronger shades alike.

The One by the Door

The hat for most summer days, whatever they hold: a dress in the garden, lunch on the terrace, a warm occasion or a slow weekend. It dresses up or down with almost no thought and stays quietly understated against whatever it is worn with. The shape is familiar enough to feel easy and clean enough to feel current. The one you keep by the door all season.

Head sizing

Available in one adjustable size (56-61cm). To find your fit, run a soft tape measure around your head just above the ears and brow.

Materials & care

A fine, close weave with a pinched crown. Manufactured overseas.

To keep it looking its best:

  • Brush gently with a soft, dry brush to lift dust.
  • Lift it by the brim rather than the crown, so the shape holds.
  • Keep it dry. If it is caught in a shower, reshape the brim by hand and leave it to air-dry away from direct heat.
  • Rest it on its crown to store, out of prolonged sunlight.

Frequently asked questions

Which shape should I choose?

It depends on the line you are after. The flat wide brim gives the cleanest, most modern shape. The open-weave piece, with its small tassel, is the most tactile and relaxed. The wide brim, with a softly pinched, fedora-style crown, is the easy and versatile one that suits most days. The oversized brim is for a little more presence, when you want the hat to lead.

How do I wear a wide-brim hat in summer without it looking like a costume?

Keep it understated and let it finish the outfit rather than define it. Worn with a summer dress, with linen or with relaxed separates, this hat sits easily at a garden lunch, on the terrace or out in town. The trick is restraint: one considered piece, worn simply, reads as style rather than fancy dress.

What should I wear it with?

These are easy, versatile pieces. A light summer dress for the garden or a warm-weather occasion; linen or relaxed tailoring for a terrace lunch or a weekend away. Kept to a simple palette, a hat like this works right across a summer wardrobe, for women and men alike.

How wide should the brim be?

Think of brim width as a question of proportion and style. A clean wide brim frames the face and keeps a balanced, classic line. The flat boater brim reads sharper and more modern. The oversized brim makes the most of scale, and is best when you want the hat to lead. Choose the width by the look you are after, not by the measurement.

What is it made of?

Each piece is woven, and the weave is the point. Across the collection the weave varies: some are close and finely braided, others more open and textural, and some are finished with a small tassel or a woven band. Where a band or trim appears, it is part of the design, whether a grosgrain band or a slim tan strap. We focus on the construction you can see and feel.

How do I care for and store this hat?

A few simple habits keep it looking its best. Lift it by the brim rather than pinching the crown, so the shape holds. Rest it upside down on its crown, or on a hat stand, so nothing presses on the brim. Keep it somewhere dry, and reshape the brim gently with your hands if it softens over time.

How do I know it will fit?

Each hat shows its available size in the size selector on its product page, so you can choose before you buy. If you are between sizes or unsure which to pick, get in touch and we will help you find the right fit.
